Where AI failed: red-light restoration of a final photo

Last Halloween, a couple wore matching Pat & Mat costumes — red and yellow, two beanies. A joyful moment captured on camera.

But the venue's red lighting drowned every color: their clothing, their faces, the space — all the same red. And after that photo, the spouse was no longer in their life. This single photo became their last photo together.

One-click AI tools had already been tried in several places. But when ambient lighting itself overwrites all color information, simple brightness or saturation adjustments cannot bring it back. To AI, a costume under red light simply looks like a "red costume" — it has no way of knowing the original color.

Studio Davinci worked from family-supplied reference photos (the same costumes under different lighting; original Pat & Mat character color values) to separate the red light by color channel, restoring the original costume colors, natural skin tone, and background. Two rounds of free preview before payment, then completion after family sign-off.
